The journey to coast FIRE is about to take a leap forward folks.
I have a plan!
I am going to GIVE MY NOTICE!!
I am excited! I am anxious! I am happy! I am nervous! Layers of feelings! All at once!
The condo still has not sold (WHAT) so we will need to consider that payment going forward.
What I’ve done to prepare so far:
- Several months ago, I very smoothly, dripping in absolute nonchalance, asked my boss how people typically give notice for our department. Answer was a standard two-weeks. Sweet!
- On my last return to office trip, I returned all of my home office equipment so that all I have left is my laptop and charger.
- Liquidated ~$10k of our taxable brokerage and sent it to our high-yield savings account. The high-yield balance sits at ~$20k now, which will cover 10 months of condo payments. Taxable brokerage balance is ~$35k. I’ll probably sell off some more as we hit new market highs to keep our liquidity cushion strong.
What I have left to do:
- Transfer my recurring personal items off my work calendar to a personal one. After nine years with one company, I’ve left many personal traces around.
- Set up Vanguard ira and roth ira accounts to roll my 401k and pension into and pull transfer paperwork and log-in links.
- Think of other things that I have left to do.
Then starting next Thursday (already?!), I am going to give non-specific pre-notice to a director I’ve worked closely with from a different department. I want to take care not to burn this bridge. I understand that there is a chance she will feel an obligation to disclose to my boss, and if that happens then I will give immediate formal notice, but hopefully we can use a couple weeks to better position our projects before my department needs my full attention.
Then on July 23rd, give my actual notice to my boss!!
Then August 6th will be my last day.
After all this, I am going to take August and September to – relax – decompress – chill. Binge read. Sit pool side. Walk around. Breathe.
And then I will check back in here and let you know what comes next.
Big big days up ahead.
I’ll keep you posted!!
